2nd try on black and white Joel

Well, I am grateful to Adrian (not hubby Adrian, but Adrian the professional photorapher), who commented on the first version of these black and white pictures.  So I am taking the opportunity to learn, and here is my second attempt.  I can see that the 1st images were indeed a bit 'grey', so the question is, are they now improved any?  Let me know!

That looks better. BTW it was your husbands blog that led me to yours months ago so you can thank him for that! I enjoy reading your posts.

I also value constructive criticism on my images - do check out my blog from time to time and feel free to comment. http://blog.pillingerphotography.com

I was having a second look at the photos and the main reason I think they appear grey is that the background is a very similar shade of grey to Joel's skin.

There are 2 solutions to this I can think of that you could do in future.....

1. Keep an eye out for backgrounds that will make your subject stand out more.

2. When you do your black and white conversion mix the colour channels in a way to increase the contrast between the subject and the background.
